Transitional Internship
Missouri Baptist offers a one-year training program for medical school graduates prior to residencies in anesthesiology, dermatology, radiology, nuclear medicine, neurology, ophthalmology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, and radiation oncology before entering their residency, if those programs don’t have a linked PGY-1 year.
Our transitional year trainees will have many more elective opportunities than those in a traditional internal medicine preliminary year.
The faculty, core medicine curriculum, lectures and conferences are the same as the categorical internal medicine residency. The trainee benefits will be identical to those residents and the other residents throughout the Washington University, Barnes-Jewish Hospital and St. Louis Children's Hospital Graduate Medical Education Consortium.
A typical schedule is shown below. Four weeks of vacation may be taken from electives.
A broad variety of electives are available across both medical and non-medical specialties, including dermatology, radiology, surgery, women’s health, neurology, surgical critical care, LGBTQ care, addiction medicine, ophthalmology and a wide variety of others.
