About the Internal Medicine Residency Program

In 2023, a need was identified for more community-based physicians in the St. Louis region. It was clear that Missouri Baptist Medical Center, a premier regional hospital without graduate medical education programs, was the clear site of choice.

The program’s primary goal is to train future internists in a community setting. The environment will place residents in close contact with leading community internists with training reflecting the daily practice of those physicians. Because Missouri Baptist functions at a high level based entirely on the efforts of the practicing providers, the training program has a strong educational foundation. The medical staff and non-physician hospital staff enjoy a warm and collegial relationship, and residents will enter an environment that treats them as valued future colleagues.

Washington University School of Medicine, the program’s academic partner, has long been one of the premier medical schools in the United States. Missouri Baptist's residency program training is formed in cooperation with the Washington University, Barnes-Jewish Hospital and St. Louis Children's Hospital Graduate Medical Education Consortium. Along with participating in this Washington University training program, residents are eligible for certain employment benefits through the consortium.
